Pupilo at DOCSP 2025: breaking silences through cinema
From July 29 to August 9, São Paulo breathed documentary. The city hosted the 11th edition of DOCSP – São Paulo International Documentary Meeting, an event that isn’t only about films, but about encounters, provocations and possible paths for those who believe in the power of the audiovisual.
In the middle of all that energy, Pupilo brought to the festival the film Onde foi que eu errei? (“Where Did I Go Wrong?”), directed by Rudolfo Auffinger. It is a first-person documentary, intimate and courageous, about sexuality in childhood, exposing something still taboo: how children and teenagers deal with desire and report the abuse they suffer at this stage of life. It is a work that isn’t content to merely tell — it nudges, questions and asks to be heard.
Representing the film at the event were Lívia Chong and Ana Isabel Costa, at Doc Networks. There, before producers, programmers and fellow filmmakers, they presented the project not only as a work, but as an urgent matter. Because talking about this isn’t a choice, it’s a necessity.
DOCSP 2025 was a creative melting pot. Beyond the screenings and debates, there were labs to boost projects, business rounds, seminars and meetings that brought Brazilian cinema closer to the world. Names such as Belgium’s Johan Grimonprez, an Oscar nominee this year, and Argentina’s Clarisa Navas, awarded at Visions du Réel, took part. Exchanges that inspire, strengthen and remind everyone why we keep telling stories.
For Pupilo, being there was more than taking part in a festival — it was occupying a space to speak, bringing a difficult subject to the center of the circle and trusting that, through cinema, it is possible to open cracks in the silence.
