Chica Pelega Film Festival

The leading film festival of inland Santa Catarina: it screens films, builds audiences and brings cinema to schools and communities across the Contestado region. Over five editions since 2021, it has shown more than 150 films to over 7,500 viewers, with debate, mediation and travelling cinema.

The Curse of Cari

A fiction short that moves between coming-of-age and horror, born in inland Santa Catarina. Developed with script advising by Pablo Arellano and consulting by Aly Muritiba, its screenplay was a semifinalist in the ROTA 2023 contest. An ambitious genre fiction, now in post-production.

Between Echoes and Bodies

A video-art exhibition curated by Gabi Bresola bringing together seven artists from SC and PR around LGBTQIAPN+ narratives and views on childhood, faith, identity and repression. It features the works Vem de Berço, Do Peito da Pele and O Porão, also available online and free for one year.

An itinerant creative-management workshop for audiovisual: in four free sessions, participants plan and develop their own project — from an overview of the sector to fundraising, production and distribution. It travelled through Curitiba, Paranaguá and Toledo (PR), with places reserved for under-represented groups.

Lights, Camera, Action!

A holiday workshop on optical toys and the origins of cinema: with thaumatropes, flip-books, magic lanterns and a large zoetrope, children discover hands-on how the illusion of movement is born and create their own animations. Led by Gabi Bresola at Sesc Joaçaba.

Where Did I Go Wrong?

Rudolfo Auffinger's first feature documentary: an autobiographical film that revisits childhood archive footage to confront the “recipe” for becoming a man. The son of German-Austrian immigrants, the director confronts the machismo of the 1990s. In development, awarded at #LINK / FIDBA.

A comedy about the end of times seen from inside heavenly bureaucracy: it's almost Christmas and Heaven is about to run out of vacancies. To save the department, Archangel Gabriel mistakenly recruits an atheist coach and, with a playboy Jesus, negotiates space until instituting reincarnation. Written by Biá Lopse.

A cinema-education project bringing workshops and an open-air screening to Vila Cachoeirinha, in Joaçaba (SC). Based on Priscila Pacheco's Curitiba methodology, it puts children aged 6 to 14 as authors of video-letters about their own territory — closing with the Chica Pelega Children's Festival.

Expanded Screen

A cycle of gatherings about making auteur cinema far from the major centres, with mediators such as Carla Abraão (MoMA, Guggenheim). A counterpart to the Campo Mourão workshop, Expanded Screen combined online debates with an in-person video-art performance-showcase, affirming the interior as a space for experimentation and circulation.

A fiction short about a 60-year-old farmer who decides to retire and reinvent his life, running into his peers' prejudice and turmoil within his marriage. Directed by Marcos Oliveira, it is a Pupilo + Rachadura Visual co-production awarded the Prêmio Catarinense de Cinema.

A festival celebrating Rogério Sganzerla — a pioneer of marginal cinema born in Joaçaba — uniting cinema, music and memory. The 1st edition (May 2025) screened the feature Tudo é Brasil and shorts about MPB icons, with workshops, school sessions and the opening of the Rogério Sganzerla Memorial.

A dance-documentary that occupies public courts to dance vogue, turning the body into a form of presence and expression. In sequence shots between documentary and choreography, the film dives into the power of the Brazilian vogue scene and the creativity of performance in urban space.

Comes from the Cradle

A looped video installation bringing four performers together to revisit childhood memories in the countryside through an ultra-futuristic aesthetic. On a single screen, each gesture repeats until the frame fills with collective presence — a nod to the classic Tango (1981), by Zbigniew Rybczynski.

A neighbour, a letter and an old file with the family surname. In the first person, The Basement revisits the moment the director told his parents about his first relationship — and the question that lingers. A brave documentary about memory, silence and the limits between desire and abuse.

An itinerant cultural caravan of costume design that travels through cities in Paraná, activating local talent and training costume designers as authors of the scene. Led by Isbella Brasileiro (Deserto Particular, Estômago 2, O Caso Evandro), it combines online theory, intensive in-person practice and free public workshops.

In partnership with the Social Services of Campo Mourão (PR), Pupilo trained teenagers and young people in every stage of filmmaking, with a focus on social transformation. In 25 hours, they created the shorts Elisa and A Cadeia — one of them selected for CineOP's Cinema and Education Showcase, in Ouro Preto.

Cultural Project Workshop

An intensive course in cultural project management in six sessions, guiding each participant from the initial idea to the final pitch before a panel. It covers incentive laws, budgeting, scheduling and fundraising, uniting theory and practice. A Pupilo + Rachadura Visual co-production, a counterpart to the short The Basement.

The Minute That Was

A film workshop that results in collective documentaries, giving voice to those who rarely appear on screen. Led by filmmaker Yasser S. González, it had editions in the quilombola communities of the Contestado, with Haitian and Venezuelan immigrants in Joaçaba, and at the Videira festival.

Terror at the Daycare

At the Irmã Sheila daycare, in Joaçaba (SC), Pupilo turned fear into creation: in a film workshop, the children went through every stage of filmmaking and made seven horror shorts entirely by themselves. It was a social counterpart to the short Render Unto Caesar.

An audiovisual-production workshop in Pinhais (PR), in partnership with Social Services and the Youth Centre, taking young people aged 13 to 19 through every stage of filmmaking. The result was the short “A opinião é sua, a realidade é minha”, about cyberbullying, selected at CineOP.

Pupilo Film Club

Since 2021, the Pupilo Film Club has brought Brazilian cinema to schools and communities across SC, PR and RS: more than 30 sessions with national shorts about the environment, Indigenous cultures, youth and history, always followed by debate and mediation. In 2024 it reached Trindade do Sul (RS) and Pato Branco (PR).

An experimental film with award-winning editing, based on the poem by Francisco Mallmann. Keythe Tavares and Rudolfo Auffinger place bodies under the gaze of the Christian cross that has surrounded our realities since colonial Brazil — and resignify it through the power of Brazilian queerness and LGBTQIA+ pop art.
