Mostra Fita wraps up its 1st edition by inaugurating the Rogério Sganzerla Memorial
Joaçaba (SC) — The first edition of the Mostra Fita de Cinema came to an end amid a double celebration, on May 16, 2025, with the official opening of the Rogério Sganzerla Memorial at the Casa de Cultura that bears the filmmaker’s name. The new permanent space brings together photographs, screenplays, original posters and audiovisual records that tell the story of the author of O Bandido da Luz Vermelha — and is born with the mission of continuing to catalog research, images and sounds, keeping his memory alive and accessible.
The day also marked a historic step for Santa Catarina’s filmmaking: in partnership with the City of Joaçaba, Ombu Produção (Gabi Bresola), Pupilo (Rudolfo Auffinger) and Cristina de Marco, the Cinemateca Catarinense inaugurated a space that now houses its nearly 40 years of collection. The partnership already has a follow-up: the Mostra.doc, dedicated to audiovisual preservation, planned for October.
Founded in 1986 by the film-club movement, the Cinemateca Catarinense was a pioneer in spreading Brazilian films across the interior. The newly created Mostra Fita de Cinema — which in 2025 honored local son Rogério Sganzerla with open-air screenings, debates, concerts and school sessions — consolidated, in twelve days, a plural circuit that reached audiences in Joaçaba, Luzerna and Herval d’Oeste.
“Closing the festival by inaugurating two spaces of memory is to reaffirm that preserving is as important as exhibiting,” says Rudolfo Auffinger, the event’s creator. For Gabi Bresola, “the creation of the Memorial reveals the history of Santa Catarina cinema and founds a new moment for the city’s visibility as a film hub.”
