Cinema on Wheels: Paulo Gustavo Call turns Cineclube Pupilo into a Traveling Cinema

Adapted van, inflatable screen and strategic partnerships create a traveling cinema for western Santa Catarina

The project’s differential goes beyond itinerancy, as its modular and adaptable architectural proposal promises to bring cinema to different spaces in an innovative way. The base of the structure will be a specially adapted van, which will not only transport the equipment but also serve as an integral part of the projection, together with the inflatable screen and carefully chosen furniture.

The furniture will ensure comfort for a diverse audience, from children to the elderly. The set design, aligned with Pupilo TV’s visual identity, promises to create not only a pleasant environment for screenings, but also playful spaces for children to play and interact before and after the sessions.

The partnership between the production company VMS Produções, the City of Luzerna through the Institute of Technology and Leisure (ITL), and Pupilo TV is fundamental to ensuring the sustainability of the traveling cinema. VMS Produções brings not only its technical expertise, but also its skill in managing events and screenings, raising the standards of film selection and programming.

Pupilo TV’s strategic location at the ITL facilities facilitates logistical coordination, while ITL’s participation as a partner physical space provides institutional backing. In addition, Pupilo TV extends its activities to the market, customizing programs for culture departments and selling screenings directly to city governments and cultural institutions.

The inclusion of the Pupilo streaming platform as a new exhibition window is an innovative step made possible thanks to projects already underway for a “Netflix for schools”, approved in the Incentivized Taxpayer Program of the City of Joaçaba and the Centelha Program funded by Finep and FAPESC. The traveling cinema’s program will be licensed to the platform, allowing viewers to subscribe to a monthly plan to access the films screened. This approach allows the catalogue to always be showing and gives access to a greater number of people.

Chica Pelega Circuit – Quilombola Edition: A Journey through Culture and History across 12 municipalities of Santa Catarina

Part of the 2024 calendar is already filled, including the Chica Pelega Circuit – Quilombola Edition, an event that promises to bring cinema not only to six municipalities, but also to six quilombola communities in the state. The circuit will tour 12 municipalities: Joaçaba, Videira, Caçador, Irani, Concórdia and Chapecó, Praia Grande, Araranguá, Capivari de Baixo, Garopaba, Paulo Lopes and Santo Amaro da Imperatriz.

The proposal involves screenings for previously selected schools and an evening session open to the public. The free event will also have its online version on the platform https://play.pupilo.tv.br, expanding its reach and cultural impact.

The Circuit will feature the screening of 28 films selected by a Quilombola Curatorial Committee at the 3rd Chica Pelega Festival. After each screening, debates and discussion circles will provide an enriching experience. The itinerancy of the Chica Pelega Circuit aims not only to expand access to cinema, but also to recover and build important narratives about the histories of Santa Catarina’s Black peoples.

The 12 cities chosen for the circuit will have varied venues, adapted to accommodate different audiences. Among the quilombola communities, CRQ São Roque in Praia Grande, CRQ Maria Rosalina in Araranguá and CRQ Ilhotinha in Capivari de Baixo will receive films and debates, providing a cultural opportunity for these communities to recognize themselves and connect through cinema. Through cinema, these communities have the opportunity not only to recognize their own histories, but also to strengthen their identities and struggles.

The Chica Pelega Film Circuit – Quilombola Edition is not just a celebration of culture, but also a significant step towards preserving and valuing the rich historical heritage of these communities. By recovering and giving visibility to their narratives, the project contributes to a more inclusive society, aware of its roots.

Cineclube Pupilo in Pato Branco: Celebrating four years of Cinema and dialogue

“Cineclube Pupilo” celebrates its fourth year of existence with 20 screenings of Brazilian feature films in partnership with the Sesi Cultural Center of Pato Branco. With capacity for up to 212 people per screening, the Cineclube promises to be a space for debate and reflection on childhoods and generational encounters.

The theme of this cycle of screenings involves childhoods and generational encounters, proposing the screening and discussion of films that marked different Brazilian generations and realities. The post-screening debates aim to connect children and teenagers with young people, adults and the elderly, promoting dialogue about generations, the films and their imaginaries.
