“Vaza, Falsiane!” course tackles disinformation with humor and wit
Vaza, Falsiane! is an ultra-pop online course for understanding – and fighting – fake news and disinformation. Organized in four modules, you can choose the content you prefer or study in order to obtain the certificates: basic (modules 1 and 2) and complementary (modules 3 and 4).
The modules and contents
1. Information and disinformation: key concepts
The foundation of everything. In this introductory module, we define fake news and the broad category of disinformation, with its history and motivations.
2. Identifying and fighting fake news
Now that we better understand the meaning of fake news, let’s discuss the power of the media, the extent of that power and what we, who receive the information, can do to have a mature relationship with the media.
3. Fake news and politics
In this module, we delve into the dangerous relationship between disinformation and politics, from hate speech to deep fakes in elections.
4. Disinformation in the pandemic and beyond
The covid-19 pandemic was fertile ground for fake news. Check out the new forms of disinformation and the mobilizations to fight them.
The content is 100% free and access is through a Facebook login.

WHO CREATED THE COURSE?
The initiative comes from three friends, journalists and university professors who for two years immersed themselves in the study of fake news and investigated the best ways to produce content on the subject for a broad audience. During this period, they were incubated by the NGO Repórter Brasil and won a Facebook funding call, and so brought Vaza, Falsiane! into the world.
Ivan Paganotti, Leonardo Sakamoto and Rodrigo Ratier, all Journalists and University Professors, are the creative minds behind the Vaza, Falsiane! course. To learn a little more about the creators, just click here.
