About the project
Where Did I Go Wrong? is Rudolfo Auffinger’s first feature documentary — an autobiographical film in which the director revisits archive footage of his own childhood to confront the “recipe” for becoming a man.
The son of German-Austrian immigrants who wanted a boy to carry on the family name, Rudolfo realised early on that he was different. Amid shame, loneliness and guilt, he was pushed to seek the very recipe that guided his birth: that of becoming “a real man”. In trying to follow a manual that never suited him, he encounters the machismo and permissiveness that shaped the lives of 1990s boys.
In development, the project has already taken part in DOCSP, NPA Curitiba and #LINK at FIDBA (Rio de Janeiro), where it won the Follow Up and FRAPA awards.
