Online Costume Week “Vestindo Histórias” spotlights women and gender dissidents in film
From September 10 to 13, a free event brings together costume designers, art directors, photographers and filmmakers to discuss the role of costume and its relationship with narrative. Broadcasts happen on Isbella Brasileiro’s YouTube, with certification for those who follow three of the four live sessions.
From September 10 to 13, Isbella Brasileiro’s YouTube hosts the Online Costume Week – Vestindo Histórias, a series of four virtual gatherings that dive into the creative process of costume design and its dialogues with set design, photography, direction and characterization. The event, free and with certification, gives the spotlight to artists who build the visual language of cinema, theater and advertising in Brazil.
The program opens on 09/10 with the live “Homem com H and Other Stories: The Universe of Gabriella Marra.” The costume designer, who designed the costumes for the recently released Homem com H by Esmir Filho, also worked on titles such as Meu Nome é Gal and Cyclone.
On 09/11, the live “From Detail to Wide Shot: Costume and Shared Space” discusses the integration between costume, set design and photography. Featuring Ana Bona, art director on films such as O Filho Eterno, Mirador and Partiu América; Fabíola Bonofiglio, art director, architect and set designer working in film since 2007, specialized in set design at LABBA Firenze, with projects shown in Tiradentes, Venice, Sundance and San Sebastián and 11 Best Art Direction awards; Renata Corrêa, cinematographer awarded at the 2025 Gramado Festival for the feature Nó; and Kenia Coqueiro, visual artist and characterization designer researching the aesthetics of bodies and the construction of identities.
On 09/12, the live “Costume Designers on Stage: Visual Narrative through Clothing” brings together three professionals who translate stories through dress: Ana Cardoso, who created costumes for campaigns by Google, Coca-Cola and for the series Vidas Bandidas (Star+); Patrícia Cipriano, an artist working across theater, film and performance with a focus on LGBTQIA+ expressions; and Mabe Roorda, a Fashion Design graduate who has collaborated on film, theater and series productions in Spain, England and Brazil, including Netflix projects with Cristina Rodríguez and Pepe Reyes.
The week closes on 09/13 with the live “Direction and Dressing: Narrative Body-Writing,” exploring the dialogue between direction, body and costume. Joining the conversation are Maíra Lour, playwright and director of Súbita Companhia, researching dance, theater and film; Cássio Kelm, internationally awarded filmmaker and director of the feature Mães do Derick; and Lua Voigt, an award-winning advertising director whose work includes Apple, Jeep, Nivea, Absolut and Discovery Channel.
According to curator Isbella Brasileiro, the Week is an invitation to recognize the creative strength of women and gender dissidents in film: “The action is part of the Vestindo Histórias project, which travels through eight cities in Paraná — Ponta Grossa, Francisco Beltrão, Cascavel, Guarapuava, Maringá, Londrina, Paranaguá and Curitiba, where the final stage takes place between September 15 and 19.”
The project also has open enrollment for an online course in Libras (Brazilian Sign Language), aimed at the deaf community throughout Paraná. The course is free, open to people aged 16 and up, and offers 40 spots. During the classes, participants will access content connecting theory and practice, including costume fundamentals, creative processes, body and identity, visual tools and project management.
The broadcasts of the Online Costume Week – Vestindo Histórias are free and happen on Isbella Brasileiro’s YouTube channel, accessible via the site vestindohistorias.art.br. Project approved by the State Department of Culture – Government of Paraná, with funds from the Aldir Blanc National Culture Policy, Ministry of Culture – Federal Government.
