Pupilo Play is online in beta

Updated on November 4, 2026. The first version of this article, from September, announced the restructuring of the platform.

Pupilo Play, the platform of Brazilian films for the classroom, is back. Since October 21, 2026, the new version has been online as a beta at https://play.pupilo.tv.br/. Beta means it already works and can be used, but it is still being adjusted based on what teachers and filmmakers tell us.

What already works

The catalogue brings together more than 330 films with a description, synopsis and age rating, and you can search by school year, subject, BNCC (Brazil’s national curriculum), rating and accessibility features. About 50 films already come with a lesson plan linked to BNCC skills. Full films play on Pupilo’s own player, with no ads in the middle of a class, and the player switches to the Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) or audio-described version when the film has one.

For educators, sign-up is free. Once the class’s school years and subjects are filled in, My area shows the films linked to them, and each film can be saved to the account. The platform also works well on mobile phones, where it can be installed as an app. The Cinema and Education section has a series of texts on why to bring cinema into schools, and the Calls section gathers festivals, open calls and cinema and education events with open deadlines. In November, the home page highlights Black Consciousness Month.

For filmmakers, the Filmmaker Area lets you submit films, accept the licence terms in your own account, follow in which cities and schools the film was watched, and take the film offline whenever you want. The platform is available in Portuguese, English and Spanish.

Why the films are arriving gradually

The most important part of the restructuring does not show on screen: Pupilo is renewing the film licences one by one, with the people who made each film. The licence is non-exclusive and educational, and each filmmaker accepts the terms in their own account. Today, 14 full films are already available, and more than a hundred are already on our player, waiting only for that acceptance. Until then, they appear with their description and trailer, and the full films are released as the licences come in.

What comes next

Soon, new full films will be added with the licences requested this November. Pupilo is also building a team of teachers to add the BNCC to the films, with school years, subjects, skills and activity suggestions; the position is open on our Work with us page (in Portuguese). Further ahead, we want each educator to have a public page on the platform, to exchange ideas with other teachers and recommend films.

Found a problem or have a suggestion? Pupilo Play itself has a button to report a problem, and schools, teachers and education departments can also get in touch with us. To get to know the platform, go to https://play.pupilo.tv.br/.
