“Vestindo Histórias” workshop transforms the costume scene in Ponta Grossa
Until July 19, Ponta Grossa lives a deep and poetic immersion in the world of costume design with the “Vestindo Histórias” workshop, a free initiative uniting theory, practice and plenty of exchange among regional artists. The activity is carried out in partnership with the city’s cultural sector and has energized the local scene with intense gatherings of creation and memory.
Led by award-winning costume designer Isbella Brasileiro, who has worked on productions such as Estômago 2 and Caso Evandro, the workshop offers five days of training aimed at professionals and students of film, theater, fashion and audiovisual — and also at seamstresses and costume lovers who want to deepen this creative craft.
The proposal goes beyond technique: “Before the character enters the scene, the first information we have about them is what they wear. Costume is a transmutation of the image, of psychology, of how the character presents itself to the world,” explains Isbella. It is clothing that tells stories — of drama, comedy, love and resistance.
The workshop has sparked a quiet, sensitive revolution. Participants report a new way of looking at scene wardrobe, as with a local seamstress who already worked with theater and circus groups in the city: “This course is helping to professionalize our work. More seamstresses should be here. It’s being very important for our field,” says seamstress Gisele de Paula.
Beyond Ponta Grossa residents, people from other cities are also taking part. Eleni, for example, came from Jaguariaíva: “We have a small, very amateur theater group. Our director does everything — writes, directs, designs the costumes and sends them to the seamstress. With this workshop, we’ll be able to bring more repertoire, more detail to the pieces.”
With content ranging from research and conception to budgeting and execution, the workshop’s main goal is to decentralize access to technical training in costume design, promoting cultural inclusion and professionalization in regions outside the major centers.
Reporter Isabel Castelari from Rede Massa – Ponta Grossa followed one of the classes and shared the experience enthusiastically: “Wow, how amazing! It’s an unmissable opportunity for anyone working with fashion or theater.”
The workshop runs until July 19 with an intense program. In the end, participants leave with a rich baggage of knowledge, style and new creative possibilities for the stage, cinema and life.
