Cineclube Pupilo holds a special final session at Praça Presidente Vargas in Pato Branco

With a giant screen and lots of popcorn, Cineclube Pupilo wraps up its cycle in Pato Branco this Saturday (21), at Praça Presidente Vargas, during the Natal da Gratidão (Christmas of Gratitude) program. The film chosen for the session, at 7 p.m., open to the public and free, was the most praised among the titles selected by curator Gabi Bresola: O Menino da Porteira.

This is a 2009 remake, directed by Jeremias Moreira Filho, with Daniel, Claudia Missura and José de Abreu in the cast. It tells the story of the farmhand Diogo, who meets Rodrigo, a boy who dreams of becoming a cattle driver. While driving a large herd to the Ouro Fino ranch, they become friends and witness the injustices that occur in the region due to the greed of Major Batista, owner of the property where they take the cattle.

For Tamara Alff, producer of Cineclube Pupilo in Pato Branco, this screening is a fitting close to what was achieved throughout the year, with three monthly sessions that added up to more than 10,000 viewers. “We are very happy with the result of this project. I believe we managed to build an audience that will keep taking an interest in Brazilian cinema,” she says.

Tamara also recalls that all sessions were designed with accessibility to welcome all kinds of people with disabilities, from the deaf community to wheelchair users and people with intellectual disabilities.

Producer Rudolfo Auffinger agrees with Tamara and stresses the importance of showing Brazilian films and animations to children and teenagers. “National cinema has a language of its own, which tells stories of our land, creating identification with the audience, who come to understand more about our culture,” he explains. “It was a 10-month cycle in Pato Branco, and we are very proud of the results,” he says.

Cineclube Pupilo is a project approved by the State Department of Culture of the Government of Paraná, carried out with funds from the Paulo Gustavo Law through the Ministry of Culture of the Federal Government, with support from the Culture Department of the Pato Branco City Hall.
