Check out Cineclube Pupilo’s July program in Pato Branco
With its first screenings packed, Cineclube Pupilo reaches its second round of films in Pato Branco. Always held on the first Monday of the month, in July the next three screenings will be right on the 1st. For these, curator Gabi Bresola chose three titles that should please everyone: O Menino da Porteira; O Grilo Feliz; and Uma Professora Muito Maluquinha.
O Menino da Porteira (The Boy at the Gate) is a 2009 remake, directed by Jeremias Moreira Filho, starring Daniel, Claudia Missura and José de Abreu. It tells the story of the cowhand Diogo, who meets Rodrigo, a boy who dreams of becoming a cattle driver. While driving a large herd to the Ouro Fino farm, they become friends and witness the injustices occurring in the region due to the greed of Major Batista, owner of the property where they take the cattle. The film will be screened at 9 am, at the Complexo Cultural.
The film chosen for the second screening, O Grilo Feliz (The Happy Cricket), is a 2001 animation directed by Walbercy Ribas. It is about a cricket who lives in a village of insects in the Amazon rainforest. He stands out in his group for being wise, sensitive and protective, in addition to playing music to cheer up his friends. However, Maledeto, an ambitious lizard, bans music in the forest and wants at all costs the most beautiful star in the sky, Estrela Linda, because he believes she is a diamond. But Estrela Linda is the Happy Cricket’s partner in creating songs. To get the star, Maledeto ends up causing a battle in the village, while the Cricket and his friends fight for the preservation of the forest and for freedom. The feature will be screened at 2 pm, also at the Complexo Cultural.
Finally, at 7 pm, at CEU das Artes, Uma Professora Muito Maluquinha (A Very Nutty Teacher) will be screened, a story by Ziraldo, directed by Andre Alves Pinto and César Rodrigues and released in 2010. It tells the story of Cate, a big-city teacher who agrees to work at a small-town school. Her methods are modern and win over the students, but bother parents and teachers in the region.
Producer Rudolfo Auffinger points out that, for each film screened at the Complexo Cultural, there is teaching material for teachers to work with in the classroom, and CEU das Artes hosts a discussant to talk with the audience about the content of the work.
“Our goal is to celebrate the richness and diversity of Brazilian cinema, contributing to the construction of a cultural identity and valuing local film production,” he says.
Tamara Alff, who is also a producer of Cineclube Pupilo, highlights the importance of partnerships with institutions in the city, such as Remanso da Pedreira, Projeto Jojoca and Apae, for building a cultural audience in the city. “This is a space for identity building, cultural preservation and intergenerational dialogue, something very valuable that only culture provides.”
Cineclube Pupilo is a project approved by the State Department of Culture of the Government of Paraná, carried out with funds from the Paulo Gustavo Law through the Ministry of Culture of the Federal Government, with support from the Culture Department of the City of Pato Branco.
