Cinema na Vila: Animation and Inclusion at Creche Irmã Sheila

On December 18, 2024, the Cinema na Vila project, run by Cineclube Pupilo, brought the magic of cinema to Creche Irmã Sheila, located in the Vila Pedrini area of Joaçaba-SC. The screenings were part of the program of International Animation Day (DIA), an initiative that celebrates animated cinema in more than 260 cities across Brazil.

The event, supported by the Aldir Blanc Law and in partnership with Parilla’s Burger, provided an afternoon full of culture and fun for 60 children in situations of social vulnerability. Two screenings were held, each adapted to the different age groups served by the daycare center.

How the program went

• First Screening (3 pm – 3:40 pm)
  Aimed at the daycare’s regular classes (younger children), the program included animations such as Manu Sonha com Onças, Receita de Vó, Quintal, Coaxo and Era uma Noite de São João. After the screening, the children enjoyed a delicious snack with hamburgers.
• Second Screening (4:15 pm – 5 pm)
  Aimed at the group of older children served by a special project of the daycare, the session featured the complete selection of the International Animation Day’s Children’s Showcase. The snack was also served at the end, making the experience even more special.

About International Animation Day

Since 2004, DIA has celebrated the art of animated cinema with simultaneous screenings throughout Brazil and in more than 30 countries. In Brazil, the event promotes cultural inclusion by offering showcases aimed at diverse audiences, including children, young people and adults.

Impact and Thanks

Cinema na Vila reaffirmed its purpose of bringing culture and leisure to communities that often have limited access to cultural activities. It was moving to see the children’s joy while watching the animations and sharing moments of learning and fun.
