Films to remember Latin American and Caribbean Black Women’s Day
The short film “Novo Mundo” (New World) emerges from a sensitive project, a series of interviews that turns its gaze to marginalized narratives and narratives of resistance. Based on these testimonies, mainly from Black women, the short Novo Mundo is narrated by Zezé Mota and features Mohana Uchoa, who takes a stand against injustices that need to be occupied and re-signified. Not only through the body, images and symbols (such as boats, fruits, rocks and metals), but also through their sounds and noises. Coletivo NEGA (Negras Experimentações Grupo de Arte) is the first Black theater group in Santa Catarina. Created 10 years ago at the State University of Santa Catarina (UDESC) with the aim of filling the lack of opportunities for Black people in the arts.
The work entitled “Canto Pra Quem é de Noite” (Song for Those of the Night) features songs such as: Água do mar, Marielle, Gracinha, Viver, viver/Primeiro sentimento, Chega pra lá, Capital, Quem é de noite, which range from reflection on social and political issues in the country, and especially in Santa Catarina, to questioning what it means to be a Black woman, her feelings, the situations she experiences in daily life, the social gaze, loves.
Right after the screening there will be a debate, with the presence of director Natara Ney, artist Franco and educator Lili Reis.

Synopsis: A paradise for the eyes, the phrase defines the character’s destination, the Land Without Evil. After walking through forests and ruins, she realizes that this territory was built on the blood of many peoples. This knowledge could leave her paralyzed, create fear, but it inspires acts of courage.

Canto pra quem é de Noite arises from the group members’ restlessness for a change and the incorporation of a new project. Thus, after a few years performing the play Preta-à-Porter, Coletivo NEGA, responding first of all to the aspirations each member of the group carries within, as Black artists and Black bodies, continues its journey developing a new project involving composition and original music. Imprinting on the work the personal and artistic experiences of these 7 Black bodies, it inspires a new path of musical construction that intends to investigate and explore the various musical styles and genres characteristic of Black culture, among them funk, samba, hip hop, rap and blues.
