Diz Aí Fronteiras

The audiovisual series Diz Aí Fronteiras (Speak Up, Borders) presents the worldviews of young people from the triple border (Foz do Iguaçu-BR, Ciudad del Este-PY and Puerto Iguazú-AR) on the cultural identities and social problems experienced by youth in these border regions. The themes and characters addressed were discovered during Audiovisual Training and Leadership Training workshops, which involved around two hundred young people from these cities. Divided into five episodes, the series brings the voice and the gesture, the song and the dance, the dreams and challenges in the lives of young people from the Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina border, whom maps and their imaginary lines are unable to separate.

Fronteiras (Borders; 2017, 9 minutes)

Pikasu Gamarra, a young Paraguayan woman, explains the symbolism and daily life of the Friendship Bridge, which connects Brazil with Paraguay. Camila Pereira will cross from Paraguay to Argentina by ferry for the first time. Matias Moreira is an Argentine athlete about to run a major athletics competition in Brazil, at the Itaipu Dam. Together with other participants of the Diz Aí – Fronteiras II project, the episode explores linguistic and ancestral questions of the region.

Identidade e Gênero (Identity and Gender; 2017, 9 minutes)

Yuri likes freedom. Several references to it are tattooed on his body. He is an amateur DJ and is making his first documentary, within the Diz Aí – Fronteiras II project, to talk about himself and seek answers as to why society has to impose something when you are the one who feels it. Yuri is a young Brazilian trans man. Regardless of borders, questions of youth and gender are universal.

Juventude e Participação Social (Youth and Social Participation; 2017, 9 minutes)

Why is it important to be an activist? Why do young people need to be active? And how to engage more young people? Young people from Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay tell how they act daily in their countries to transform their realities. Daiana Acosta and Vidal Canteros are Paraguayan; he is about to finish high school and is part of an organization working for a Paraguay with more transparent politics.

Cultura e Religião (Culture and Religion; 2017, 9 minutes)

On the triple border, Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay share a cultural and religious diversity, mainly due to Arab and Chinese immigration. There is also the historic and strong Indigenous presence, which makes Guarani an important language for Paraguayans. Daughter of a Syrian father and a Chilean mother, Ahlam Amira lives in Foz do Iguaçu.
