Cineclube Pupilo holds film screenings for children in Trindade do Sul/RS

The film screenings took place between March 21 and 23

Cineclube Pupilo started the year with cinema for children in the town of Trindade do Sul/RS: there were 4 screenings between March 21 and 23 with a total audience of approximately 520 people.

In the project, which took place with support from the Paulo Gustavo Law, short films with adventures, animations, fantasies and reflections were screened. One of them is “Geração alpha“, directed by Débora Resendes and Iuri Moreno, an animation about the importance of reading told through the story of Rebeca and Marcelo, children with different interests and their connections with literature and technology.

“The films chosen for the screenings stimulate diversity of thought, whether by recovering stories, tales and legends known in regional history, as is the case of the short film ‘Olha a Bruxaria‘, by Santa Catarina native André Luz, based on Franklin Cascaes, or contemporary themes about technology with the shorts ‘Geração alpha‘ and ‘O cemitério do parque da luz‘. Although aimed at children, the program is suitable for all ages,” said the screenings’ curator Gabi Bresola.

Raising questions about acceptance, the program features the film “O Garoto Barba” by director Christopher Faust, which tells in 14 minutes the story of Felipe, a boy who likes being the way he is, but feels out of place because other people tend to look at him differently due to a rare condition he has: being born with a beard. With a proposal to reveal how much different childhoods have in common, the film “Disque Quilombola” uses a tin-can telephone game to exchange ideas about the realities and ways of life of communities in different parts of the country.

For Marilaine Souza Rosa, municipal secretary of Education, Culture and Sports of Trindade do Sul/RS, “Cineclube Pupilo is a powerful tool for the integral development of children and teenagers. Through carefully selected films and debates mediated by specialists, the project promotes critical reflection, empathy, tolerance and appreciation for the art of cinema. The Department of Education recognizes the importance of Cineclube Pupilo for the formation of more complete and conscious citizens and supports the project’s initiatives.”

At the first screening, on March 21, around 300 children from CMEI Jesus Maria José, Jesus Maria José Municipal School, Santa Lúcia Municipal School and Zenir Ghizzi da Silva State School watched the films at the Municipal Gymnasium (the venue had to be changed due to force majeure). On the second day of screenings, March 22, at the Parish Hall of Linha Colônia Nova, 130 students from São Jerônimo Municipal School, Dom João Becker Municipal School, Antônio Manica State School and Felice Campanhoni State School watched the films.

Film club activities also play an important role in public spaces, transforming areas of the city that are usually just places of passage into spaces for enriching collective experiences. One example was the Saturday screening, March 23, which turned a parking lot between the Main Church and the Municipal Square into an open-air cinema for the whole community.

About Cineclube Pupilo

It is a project that intends to awaken the eyes of children and teenagers to the rich and vast field of possibilities that exists in the connection between cinema and education, with mechanisms capable of strengthening dialogue between children, teenagers and the community. This edition of the project took place through the Paulo Gustavo Law Call of the Municipality of Trindade do Sul/RS.

“In this era when people have the film they want with a few clicks, it is important to cultivate the habit of watching films together,” stresses the founder of Cineclube Pupilo, Rudolfo Auffinger. He adds that it is practical to be able to watch whatever film you want at home, but that the experience of watching a film goes far beyond that. “Socializing, that moment of collective experience, the opportunity for debate after the film, laughing or crying with someone else, are some of the things that are part of the ritual of leaving home to watch a film together and that expand this experience,” he concluded.
