Tela Expandida brings Carla Abraão, curator at New York museums, for a debate on art and cinema in Joaçaba
Exploring the intersection between visual arts and cinema, a free event brings together specialists and performances in Joaçaba
On March 27 (Thursday), at 7 p.m., Casa da Cultura Rogério Sganzerla, in Joaçaba (SC), hosts the conversation circle Tela Expandida: Connections Between Art and Cinema. The event seeks to discuss the relationships between visual arts and cinema through video art and video installation. The program features the virtual participation of curator and educator Carla Abraão, plus cultural performances by Flávia Pacchely and Oliver Pasetti.
Carla Abraão holds a master’s in Visual Arts from UDESC and a bachelor’s in Cinema from UNESPAR. She currently lives in New York, where she works as an educator at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), the Guggenheim Museum and the Brooklyn Museum, as well as working as an independent curator. During the event, she will bring her experience in contemporary art to a chat about the dialogues between video and installation in the arts.
The evening will also feature cultural performances of dubbing and singing by Flávia Pacchely and Oliver Pasetti. From these performances, a brief explanation will be given about the creative process of the video installation Vem de Berço, a work that was on display at Casa da Cultura between December and January. The project started from childhood memories in countryside towns, combined with ideas of ultra-future, to create an audiovisual experience inspired by the work Tango by Zbigniew Rybczynski.
Another highlight of the program is the screening of the video-dance “Danças do Cotidiano” by João Tomaz. The project portrays the daily work of five professionals — a street cleaner, a shoemaker, a nurse, a retired teacher and a house cleaner — turning their movements into small cells of dance, recorded in different urban spaces of Joaçaba. The video includes audio description to ensure accessibility for the audience.
The event will be moderated by Rudolfo Auffinger, director of Vem de Berço, O Porão and Basquete das Excluídas, a member of the Rachadura Visual collective. More information about the works can be found at http://www.rachaduravisual.com.br.
The action is part of the Porão project, selected in the Public Call for Culture Funding No. 0006/2024/PMJ, carried out with funds from the Joaçaba City Hall, through the Department of Communication, Culture and Culture Administration.
